The question always comes up; Why are we field paint only? Meaning, why do we only allow paintballs purchased at our business and not paintballs purchased elsewhere?
The main reason is quality! The paintballs you can purchase at the local sports stores have not been taken care of like they need to be. If you look on the box of paintballs, it tells you not to expose them to freezing temperatures, temperatures in excess of 80 degrees, or overly moist conditions. Prolonged exposure to any of these conditions will cause the ball to expand, contract, dimple, go out of round, and even break. The above mentioned places store the paintballs in containers that get extremely hot in the sun, extremely cold in the fall/winter, and are often exposed to more than normal humidity.
In my opinion, American Eagle Paintball sells the best paintballs on the market today. Defy paint has been in the business for some time now and they know what it means to take care of the ball. When they receive it from the factory, the paintballs are kept within the normal temperature range inside their warehouse. We order the paintballs in small enough quantities to keep the supply fresh. Once the shipment arrives here in El Paso, it is loaded into our climate controlled trailer where we maintain the ideal storage temperature. When we sell it to our customers, the paintballs are as fresh as possible, no dimples, no out of round paintballs, no breakage in the bags.
Another reason we do not allow outside purchased paintballs, is the materials they are made of. Defy paintballs are often made of food quality gelatin with the liquid (paint) being made with PEG materials. PEG stands for Poly Ethylene Glycol. PEG is the liquid that will evaporate after the ball breaks making for an easy clean up and not staining clothing or equipment. Another type of paintball that Defy uses is known in the industry as a starch ball. These paintballs leave a dry power like paint behind the can be cleaned easily with simple water. Paintballs made at other paintball facilities contain oil. The oil in the paintballs degrade the glue that holds plywood together allowing the bunkers to literally fall apart after a few months. Some paintballs may even contain an oil known to promote Black Mold growth. We value our customers and employees health. American Eagle Paintball will never use or allow any product that puts either at risk.
Lastly, we want our customers to have the best time possible without worrying if the paint the other guy brought in is safe or not. I'm sure everyone has heard stories of players freezing the paintballs so they hurt more. By the way, freezing the paintballs ruins the ball and will cause it to burst in your gun, not on your opponent.
In short, the answer to the question is;
1) Quality
2) Materials
3) Ensuring the paintballs are safe to use.
